Fr. Neal's Notes - Week of May 26th

Memorial Day reminds me of my deep concern for our veterans and active Military members. Our book in the church of prayer intentions for our Military is filled with names of those living and deceased - those currently in active combat and those returning after deployment.

My thoughts in prayer have led me to declare July as a month of prayer and reflection for the Military and those needing healing and encouragement. That being said, the 5 Tuesdays in July we will have prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Join us here at St. Michael's with your needs and intentions

Fr. Neal's Notes Week of May 19th

As I look at the calendar, the next month is filled with graduations and the end of the school year. These events are filled with joy and gratitude!

Moving into June a very important youth event deserves attention. Here at St. Michael's there will be Vacation Bible School from June 24th-28th. The title this year is "Kingdom Rock - Where Kids Stand Strong for God". This is a wonderful program for the 5yr olds - 5th graders. Parents - definitely consider signing up your child for this event. Kids really love this "school". It's so much fun! Participation forms are available here and can be submitted to the Religious Education Office.

Fr. Neal's Notes

During these 40 days after the Feast of the Resurrection Jesus has prepared the disciples for their call to proclaim the Gospel. He assures them He will send the Holy Spirit to guid their way. Fear and lack of faith would not be a problem. Pentecost would be the answer.

Bishop Flores assured our 100+ Confirmation candidates on April 25th that the Holy Spirit would be their answer for faith questions and even doubts. The gifts of the Holy Spirit guide our journeys in faith. During this week of preparation for Pentecost check out the reflections on these gifts on my Twitter account. A virtue a day will be shared for practicing the seven gifts.

Happy Pentecost!!

Ascension Sunday & Mother's Day

On this feast of the Ascension of the Lord (in the diocese of San Diego), we also celebrate Mother’s Day. How inspired the Apostles must have been when Jesus ascended to heaven. It was then that the challenge came to them to accept their call to proclaim Christ to a waiting world. They waited for the Holy Spirit for guidance and courage to understand their privileges.

On this Mother’s Day we pray for our moms, living and deceased; they are examples of being true disciples. Their gifts are shared as examples to us of God’s love. We are most grateful for the ways they show Christ is present to us. A mother’s love is a special way God shares his
grace to the world!

Offer the following prayer for all our mothers:

Heavenly Father,
Bless all those you have entrusted with motherhood.
Inspire them to follow the example of Mary, Mother of our Lord and follow in her fidelity, humility, and selfless love.

May all mothers receive your grace abundantly in this life, and may they be granted eternal joy
in your presence in heaven. Amen

God’s blessings,
Msgr. Neal

We Have Much to Celebrate

FIRST COMMUNION WEEKEND

We celebrate our 2nd graders at four Masses this weekend as they come forward for First Communion.  It’s a special day of joy for them, their families and the parish.  They serve as a reminder of the great privilege in the Holy Eucharist in their own words and actions as they proclaim their happiness to receive Jesus the very first time.  We celebrate with them and thank them for their enthusiasm as they make the Lord Jesus the very center of their lives through the Holy Eucharist.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TERRY GASE!

Terry Gase was awarded special honors at the University of San Diego on Saturday, April 27.  She received the Mother Rosalie Hill Award for exceptional service to USD as a member of the Alumni Board for two decades.  Terry has been here at St. Michael’s School as a teacher for 37 years.  Congratulations to Terry Gase for her dedicated service to the Church, our parish and higher education!!

God’s blessings,
Msgr. Neal

Fr. Neal's Notes

Welcome to my new weekly blog series called "Fr. Neals Notes". Some of you know me as Msgr. Dolan so realize these "notes" come from the same person. Each week I will share some thoughts from my heart that reflect the homilies I give on Sundays and week days.

We begin this week with a theme from the Gospel of the 5th Sunday of Easter:

We don't want to be commanded to do anything, however, Jesus commands us to love one another if we are to be his disciples. Now that's a challenge, but with grace - possible! I'm convinced it requires forgiveness of others and even oneself. For me this is the way to fulfill the command of love.
